Final Reflection

4. Early in the year I learned the importance of making clean in and out points. You can see that in my first film of the over the shoulder exercise, I didn't do this, especially in the scenes where I look down to view my script. On my secong project I learned to make better decisions on when to cut certain clips. A scene that shows this well is when I get up and walk away and the boys are still looking at me trying to decide if they shout make a the right choice. This film was called our "Final Draft". Later in the year I showed that I really had learned that concept well, since I showed this in other projects. One good example is from "Star Promo" in all the scenes where I cut them short enough to understand what they say, but short enough to keep the audience interested.

5. Something that I learned from watching films is using the Rule of Thirds. I tried to use it in my films but when it came around to it I just forgot. I liked when others used it because it was something that caught my eye. I also watch for the Rule of Thirds when I watch films at the movie theater. This aspect does get annoying, it does help with my film making.

6. I had a good experience in this class. I met a lot of new people and have a new interest in film making. I would like to keep making short films because that is definetly one of the things that i enjoyed doing in this class. Another thing that i liked about this class was actually editing the videos. I started getting really good at it and I was able to edit it videos in a very short amount of time. Overall I think this was a very good class.

Music Project

The story we were suggesting was an army going across the ocean on a big ship to go fight in a war. When they get to this foreign country they walk across the land to find the battle grounds. Once they get there they prepare themselves to fight. The two opposing sides have a stare off to decide who will make the first move. One side makes the move and they begin to fight. Then the winning team walks off victoriously. The part I am most proud of is the first 30 seconds. The part of the story that we were trying to suggest during this sequence is when they are on the boat in the middle of the ocean. This helped with the story because it is of boats and the ocean the sky. There were anstract images of the sun shining through clouds.  Our video is a little over 50% of abstract images. W used blue to suggest that it was an emotional time for the army.I learned that abstract images can really tell a story and make it look interesting.I learned that music and images can be combined to tell a different story. My partner edited all of the effects while i gone taking an AP test.I spaced out the story to fit certain parts.

Michaela and Brad Sandbox

We used the twirl effect. It is in the destort folder. We adjusted the angle so it twirled alot.We adjusted the radius a little so that the span was wider. W adjusted the center so the center became wider. I would use this in a film if a character got all psycho.

Jabberwocky stanza 1

The special effect we used best was gradient wipe. This effect worked because it made a scary picture even scarier. W were trying to communicate a dark picture. The idea we were trying to show with the effect and the picture was that this creepy, mystical enviornment is being taken over by something.

Star Promo

Our video should be picked for a lot of reasons. First off the video is very inspirational and helpful on scoring good on the star test and preparing for it. Also it has a lot of helpful tips for the star test. We think our video will be good in showing our school and possibly others that we can do good on the star test.

Thinking about Our Final Values Video

Michaela and Cole

Positive Comments
We especially like the close up shots of Michaela and Chris because it helped reflect the reactions and the feelings of the characters.
-Ashley T. and Michaela C.
We liked this comment because we like our close ups and thought that they fit well.

We really liked the close up of the chew, because it helped emphasize the idea that they were going to chew the stuff.
- Kelsey and Kaycee
We liked this comment because it was something we planned and weren’t too sure about. But we’re glad it worked and that people liked it.

The first music came in right in the beginning and it was intense.
-Isaiah and Caesar

We especially like the extreme close up of the dip because it helped emphasize the idea that what they were doing was wrong.
-Jake and Alex

You could have had them meet up with Michaela and them smiling or some form of acknowledgement that they're good friends not trying to do anything wrong.
-John and Joselyn

we especially like medium shot that showed all of the students with the can of chew.
-Jacob and Morgan

Suggestions

You could have had them meet up with Michaela and them smiling or some form of acknowledgement that they're good friends not trying to do anything wrong.
-John and Joselyn
We liked this suggestion because it was something that we may have been able to do at some point. We also agree that this would improve our resolution.

Possibly make those go a little slower so that people can read it.
-Ashley T. and Michaela C.

You can add to the resolution by showing what happens when the students go back to class.-Jacob and Morgan
We liked this suggestion because we had thought about doing this but thought our video would be too long. If we could we would definitely add this.

you could make the sound louder so that you could hear the dialogue better. –Jake and Alex

Reflection of Rough Draft

The value that we are trying to represent is courage. I think what are group did well is make a good script and present our value well. Something we still need to complete is adding more close ups of all the characters to add more personality to them. ANother thing i think that we need to do is add more shots of us getting over to the ally. We want to know if the music really makes sense with the video. We were wondering if the camera angle worked when we did a close up of me. A challenge our group faced in creating the video was finding music. When we came to the end of editing we were still looking for music. It was hard because our group was split on what we were looking for.The boys had this idea that we should have some hard rock, screamo music, which didnt make any sense to me. I thouhgt that we should have music from a silent film, since we dont talk in the part where we were putting music. We were both looking the whole class. Then i found music that i thought would fit perfectly. I downloaded it, added it, and then made it fit in the video. It looked and sounded great. Then the boys found a song that they liked better, even though i didnt really like it or think that it fit. They put it in the video at the end of class. Then when i was gone they voted and that was the video that they uploaded. So i guess thats what we ultimitly did to address it.

Over The Shoulder Exercise

Our group didn't do that much planning because we thought it was pretty standard. After, we realized that we should have planned more becasue we forgot to do the reaction shot. If we would have planned before we could have planned decided to do that shot last. We did not follow the rule of thirds very well because we forgot that we had to use it. Our shots were all centered. The impressions that the over the shoulder shots create about the charcter is that you can see all of the person who is talking. You can also see exactly what the person is seeing. The dialogue seems pretty realistic in the final edit. A challenge we faced while editing was ending the clip right before the person looked down. There is no dominant tone of the video because the to characters have different moods throughout the video. The mood for the girl is annoied becasuee she just wants to know the amount of money. The mood for the guy is ammused because he thinks it is funny to mess with her. An observation i have about the over the shoulder shot is that it is cool to see the point of view.
